Having recently come through two major hurricanes makes a person think about sure
foundations. I reflected on what Jesus said about the foundation upon which my house
is built. Here in Florida the earth is sandy. The metaphor Jesus used was about whether
a house is built on sand or solid rock. You can believe that Bob and I made our stand –
our house is built upon the “Rock” of God’s Word.
God’s Word is the firmest foundation and unmovable! The circumstances around us
are fickle and constantly changing. As a Believer, we have the assurance of God’s
Promises and Provisions on which we rest our hope and faith. What God Himself says
about His Word settles everything.
“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah
40:8 NKJV
“Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen”well, for I am [actively] watching over My
word to fulfill it.’” Jeremiah 1:12 AMP
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:35 NKJV
“Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” Psalms 119:89 NKJV
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But
water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And
bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not
return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the
thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11 NKJV
The amazing thing about God and His Word, is when His Word becomes your word.
A Word of God that speaks to you about your life and the plans He has for you
personally. Those personal words are firm foundations in our life on which we build. I
believe that our God is a speaking God. Each one of us have scriptures that we hold
dear and near. They became alive at moments in our lives we needed encouragement,
direction, a plan and vision. Those Scriptures (or promises) anchor our life and help us
stay on course. I have mine and they have been held close to my heart for decades.
Actually, some of them for over 50 years! They are the promises God made to me, that
I can say….These are my promises! This is what God said to me and for me. They are
unshakable!
Most of our partners are aware of recent events that happened in my life over the
Summer. I was rushed into emergency surgery and my family was not given much hope
I would live to see another day. The doctor gave me a 50/50 chance of survival. He
actually told me that it was one of the most difficult surgeries he has ever done and it
“scared” him. Bob and my daughters made their stand on God’s Word in the days
immediately following the surgery. When I woke from sedation in ICU, one of the first
conversations I remember was Bob asking me what Promise from God am I standing
on. That was easy to answer. I have stood for decades on Ephesians 6:1-3 “Children,
obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. *Honor your father and mother,”
which is the first commandment with promise: )that it may be well with you and
you may live long on the earth.’” I have held that promise before the Father God and
told Him, “I did that! I honored my father and mother. This promise is mine!”
For me, that scripture was not just a word from God, it was anchored in my heart as
my word from God. It is one of several that in my teens and twenties God spoke over
my life. Those verses brought vision to my life and revealed His heart and purpose for
me. I can tell you that as I laid in that hospital bed, those were my thoughts and my
anchor. I knew my race was not finished. I was not satisfied because I knew the vision
in my heart His Word has brought many decades passed had not been fulfilled. You
see, those scriptures became His Personal Word to me! They are my promises! They
have anchored my life and they have shown me the way to walk out into my future and
God’s plan. So, I am asking you, “WHAT IS YOUR PROMISE?”
I know there are things that God has whispered to your heart in past seasons of life.
His Word to You about You. Sometimes we have to dust them off and remind ourselves
of what He has said. We have to redirect the course we are taking and align it back to
His revealed Word. By these personal promises we are to fight the good fight of faith.
Can I share another scripture that became His Word to me – another of my promises?
*The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And
be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you
peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV
That is my promise from my Father God smiling over me! His Shalom Peace, to bring,
provision, safety, health, soundness, wholeness in ever area of life! So, you see, I knew
I was coming off that hospital bed and walking out of the hospital to fulfill His Promises
over me!
