Eric and Wilma Sonera are dear friends and partners with Doulos Global Ministries. They have traveled with Gail and I on multiple occasions to different countries. We share the same passion to prepare and mobilize God’s people for the work of ministry. The Sonera’s are sent to serve the nations.
Eric and Wilma are both of Puerto Rican descent. They married in 1987 and have two grown children. Eric served in the Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. They currently reside in Tucson, Arizona where they have been serving under Virgil Stokes – Pastor, friend, and Founder of Faith Ministry Training Institute (FMTI). Under his mentorship they received training in the Word (doctrine,) in faith, and practical ministry. For years Eric has interpreted for Pastor Virgil as he taught FMTI to pastors and leaders throughout Latin America. Wilma has translated the FMTI curriculum into Spanish.
During Eric’s first mission trip to Mexico, the Lord showed him His church in Central America was in ruins. He told Eric He was going to rebuild it and invited him to come along to help. In 2011 the Soneras moved to Costa Rica as missionaries, served for two and a half years as Assistant Pastors, and started a new work. They returned to the U.S. to help Faith Christian Fellowship of Tucson bring the teachings of FMTI to churches and students in Latin America.
Eric and Wilma now serve through their own ministry: APTOS (to be capable, skilled, prepared). Their vision is to train and develop pastors and leaders through life-coaching, using the FMTI curriculum and building relationships. They have a particular burden for Pastors, churches, and missionaries in Hispanic speaking countries. We look forward to being sent and working side-by-side with them in the future.
